🚀 Quick Guide: How to Delete Your Account

Option 1: In the App (Easiest)

  1. Open CookWins app
  2. Settings → Profile → Delete Account
  3. Confirm deletion
  4. ✅ Done! (Deleted immediately)

Option 2: Email Us

Email privacy@cookwins.com with subject "Account Deletion Request"

What Gets Deleted:

  • ✅ Your profile (name, email, photos)
  • ✅ All cooking history and meal data
  • ✅ Photos and ingredient scans
  • ✅ Achievements and progress
  • ✅ All preferences and settings

⚠️ Important: Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Cancel any active subscriptions separately through the App Store/Google Play.


1. Your Right to Deletion

Under data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, LGPD), you have the right to be forgotten. This means you can request permanent deletion of your personal data at any time, for any reason.

CookWins makes deletion:

  • Easy: Delete in-app with 3 taps
  • Fast: Completed immediately (within seconds)
  • Permanent: Cannot be undone
  • Comprehensive: Removes all personal data from our systems

2. What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, we permanently remove:

2.1 Account Information

  • ✅ Email address
  • ✅ Display name and profile photo
  • ✅ Password (encrypted hash)
  • ✅ Authentication tokens
  • ✅ Login history

2.2 Preference Data

  • ✅ Dietary restrictions and allergies
  • ✅ Cuisine preferences
  • ✅ Cooking skill level settings
  • ✅ Notification preferences
  • ✅ Privacy settings

2.3 User-Generated Content

  • ✅ Saved and favorited recipes
  • ✅ Custom ingredient lists
  • ✅ Recipe reviews and ratings
  • ✅ Community posts and comments
  • ✅ Shared recipes (removed from public view)

2.4 Usage and Activity Data

  • ✅ Search history (ingredients, recipes)
  • ✅ Scan history (ingredient detections only - we never store your photos)
  • ✅ App usage analytics linked to your account
  • ✅ Feature usage patterns
  • ✅ Device information

2.5 Achievement and Challenge Data

  • ✅ Challenge participation history
  • ✅ Earned badges and achievements
  • ✅ Leaderboard entries
  • ✅ Cooking streaks and progress

3. What We Retain (Anonymized or Required by Law)

For legal, security, and operational reasons, we may retain limited data that cannot identify you:

3.1 Anonymized Analytics (Required)

  • What: Aggregate usage statistics (e.g., “10,000 recipes generated today”)
  • Why: Improve product features
  • Identifiable: No - stripped of all personal identifiers
  • Duration: Indefinitely

3.2 Financial Records (Legal Requirement)

  • What: Subscription payment records (amount, date, subscription type)
  • Why: Tax compliance, fraud prevention, accounting laws
  • Identifiable: Email may be retained for accounting
  • Duration: 7 years (IRS and tax law requirements)
  • Note: We don’t store credit card numbers (handled by Apple/Google)

3.3 Legal Communications (Compliance)

  • What: Support tickets, legal notices, DMCA claims
  • Why: Legal compliance, dispute resolution
  • Identifiable: Only if required by law
  • Duration: 7 years or as legally required

3.4 Security Logs (Fraud Prevention)

  • What: Login attempts, suspicious activity logs
  • Why: Prevent fraud, protect other users
  • Identifiable: Minimal (IP addresses anonymized)
  • Duration: 90 days

3.5 Backups (Technical Limitation)

  • What: Copies of deleted data in automated backups
  • Why: Disaster recovery systems
  • Identifiable: Yes, temporarily
  • Duration: 30 days max, then automatically purged

4. How to Delete Your Data

You have three ways to delete your account. Choose the method that works best for you.

⭐ Option 1: In-App Deletion (Fastest & Easiest)

For Both iOS & Android:

  1. Open the CookWins app
  2. Tap Settings (gear icon in top right)
  3. Tap Profile or Profile Settings
  4. Scroll down and tap Delete Account (red button at bottom)
  5. Read the warning about what will be deleted
  6. Tap Confirm or Delete Account
  7. Your account is deleted immediately

Timeline: Deleted immediately (within seconds)

What happens:

  • You are signed out instantly
  • All your data (meals, photos, achievements, preferences) is deleted from our servers
  • You can create a new account with the same email if desired

Option 2: Email Request

If you can’t access the app:

  1. Send an email to privacy@cookwins.com
  2. Subject Line: “Account Deletion Request”
  3. Include:
    • Your registered email address
    • Reason for deletion (optional)
    • Statement: “I request permanent deletion of my CookWins account and all associated data”
  4. Verify your identity: We may ask security questions to confirm it’s you

Timeline: Confirmation within 72 hours, deletion within 24-48 hours of verification


Option 3: Web Portal (Coming Soon)

Visit cookwins.com/delete-account:

  1. Log in with your credentials
  2. Click Request Account Deletion
  3. Confirm via email verification
  4. Click the deletion link in your email

Timeline: Deleted within 24 hours


5. Deletion Timeline

For In-App Deletion:

Stage Timeframe What Happens
1. Request Confirmed Immediate You are signed out; account locked
2. Data Deletion Within seconds Personal data removed from active databases
3. Cloud Data Within 1 minute Firestore and cloud storage cleaned
4. Complete Immediate Deletion complete; cannot be recovered

For Email Requests:

4. Complete Within 5 days Permanent; cannot be recovered

6. Before You Delete: Important Considerations

⚠️ Subscription Cancellation

IMPORTANT: Deleting your account does NOT cancel active subscriptions. You may continue to be charged.

You must cancel separately:

iOS Users:

  1. Open Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions
  2. Tap CookWins
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription
  4. Confirm

Android Users:

  1. Open Google Play Store
  2. Tap Menu → Subscriptions
  3. Tap CookWins
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription

Cancel before deleting your account to avoid charges.

💡 Data Export (Download Before Deleting)

Want to keep a copy of your data? Export it first:

  1. Settings → Privacy → Download My Data
  2. Receive a JSON file with all your information
  3. Save it locally

🆕 Creating a New Account

After deletion, you can immediately create a new account with the same email, but:

  • Previous data will NOT be restored
  • You’ll start fresh (no saved meals, achievements, progress)
  • This is a completely new account
  • Subscription history may still exist for tax/legal purposes

7. What Happens to Shared Content?

7.1 Public Recipes

If you shared recipes with the community:

  • Your name is replaced with “[Deleted User]
  • Recipe content remains (other users may have saved it)
  • You can request removal of specific recipes before deleting your account

7.2 Reviews and Comments

  • Your display name changes to “[Deleted User]
  • Content remains unless it violates our Terms
  • You can edit/delete individual posts before account deletion

7.3 Community Challenges

  • Your participation is removed from leaderboards
  • Other users’ achievements are unaffected

8. Minors and Parental Requests

For Parents/Guardians

If you believe your child (under 13 in US, under 16 in EU) created an account:

  1. Email privacy@cookwins.com
  2. Subject: “Minor Account Deletion Request”
  3. Include:
    • Child’s email or username
    • Proof of guardianship (ID, birth certificate)
    • Your contact information

We will delete the account within 24 hours of verifying guardianship.


9. Troubleshooting Deletion

“I Can’t Remember My Password”

Use Forgot Password to reset, then delete via in-app option.

Or email privacy@cookwins.com with identity verification.

“I Deleted My App, But My Account Still Exists”

Deleting the app does NOT delete your account. Follow the steps above.

“My Account Was Hacked”

Contact support@cookwins.com immediately:

  • We’ll secure your account
  • Then help you delete it if desired

“I’m Not Getting Confirmation Emails”

Check spam/junk folders. If still missing, email support@cookwins.com.


10. Legal Compliance

This Data Deletion Policy complies with:

🇪🇺 GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

  • Right to Erasure (Article 17)
  • Deletion within 30 days
  • Retention only for legal obligations

🇺🇸 CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)

  • Right to Delete (Section 1798.105)
  • No discrimination for exercising rights
  • Verification of deletion requests

🇧🇷 LGPD (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados)

  • Right to Elimination (Article 18)
  • Transparent deletion process

🇨🇦 PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act)

  • Right to withdraw consent
